What is Billy qualified to do?

54844266

If you follow our posts, you know we have approximately infinity examples of Billy’s incompetence as a council member. Let’s call it a Treasury of Billy’s mistakes. Today we have been made aware that his incompetence also extends to his role as Chairman of the local Republican Central Committee.

Danielle Gaines reported in today’s paper  on the occurrence of this delightful incident:

The Frederick County Republican Central Committee’s chairman was planning to lend thousands of dollars to Donald Trump’s campaign in Maryland, where the billionaire presidential candidate faces long odds of winning.

The chairman, Billy Shreve, said the planned expense was canceled. But while it was considered, the nearly $12,000 loan would have represented a significant majority of the committee’s coffers, campaign finance and central committee records show.

Instead, the Maryland Republican Party picked up the expense — because the donation would have violated Federal Election Commission rules. The county central committee made an initial payment, later refunded, without registering an FEC number and without disclosing the expense within the federal campaign finance reporting system.

Such a shock  that Billy wouldn’t understand the Federal Election Commission Rules. I mean really, we didn’t expect that he was going to actually read, or ask, or investigate the proper way to make a donation, did we?  And it’s not clear whether or not the other members of the central committee were keen on spending all the dollars on Trump:

Messages with three members of the Frederick County Republican Central Committee were not immediately returned on Wednesday evening.

Two other members — Darren Wigfield and Mike Bowersox — referred comments to Shreve.

And why would he spend $12,000 on a candidate who has 0.1% chance of winning in Maryland. Aren’t there other candidates on the ballot that money may have been better spent on? The Maryland Republican Party, who hadn’t planned on making this donation, instead donated the money. What was that chairman’s response to what Billy had done?:

“It was something people wanted, so we went ahead and did it …,” Cluster said. “Look, central committees — sometimes they get excited about things.”

Excited?! Kinda like a Labrador Retriever excited? Or a 4 year old child who hasn’t learned any self control kinda excited?  Because honestly Billy could fit into either category. We hope beyond hope that when the next election shows up he is shown the door. At least his position as co-chair of the elect Trump campaign of Frederick County is surely coming to an end.

It sure does!
It sure does!

Sexual harassment is no joke. @#%%^#!

This morning the newly lauched thefrederickextra.rocks broke a story about allegations of sexual harassment filed against Bud Otis by Billy Shreve. You can read all the details here .

howlowcanyougo
The bar is so freaking low already. It’s practically on the floor.

Sexual harassment is a serious charge and we lady yokels find no humor in this situation. What we do find humorous is thinking how this situation would play out if the two people involved were different. Let’s pretend that Billy Shreve is practically any woman and that Bud Otis is Donald Trump. What would be happening right now? Probably a Tweet storm! These here are some actual real tweets from Mr. Big League himself.

Just substitute @nytimes with @frederickextra

In our scenario, it’s not hard to imagine these tweets.

I guess we can’t help but wonder if Billy feels differently about his hero now that he has felt the sting of sexual harassment. In his own words “It felt dirty. I felt sick. I was mad! I never want this to happen to anyone again.” We all remember seeing Billy in all his glory . So time to put your money where your mouth is and stop backing Trump. That might be hard for someone who is the co-chair of Trump’s local campaign. But continuing to support Trump is continuing to support someone whose actions sure seem pro-sexual harassment to us. How’d you like them apples?

To make matters, well, more hypocritical…this is a man who has tried to increase awareness of the groups in favor of human trafficking. Can anyone tell us what color magnet goes on your car for that? Maybe we can get one for our newly sensitive Councilmember.

It wasn’t a challenge Billy!!

LITERALLY!
LITERALLY!

Your Lady Yokels have been sitting around the Old Yokel Headquarters pondering whether or not Billy has taken our critiques of his abominable behavior as a challenge to do worse. Maybe, just maybe, he reads our interpretation of what he does and thinks, “You think that’s bad, just wait until I put a bunch of Cub Scouts up on the dais of Winchester Hall and have them hold a Trump/Pence sign!” If that sounds awfully specific, that’s because that is a thing that actually happened. It’s all over Facebook, making the rounds on various pages. We hear that the National Council of Boy Scouts is very upset because this is a clear violation of their guidelines. And,we also have it on good authority that the County Attorney is now looking into whether or not Billy violated any laws. Shame on the scout leader for not being aware of Boy Scout policy. And double, no triple, shame on Billy for not knowing (or more realistically, not caring) that politicking is not allowed in Winchester Hall. Maybe it’s the influence of his hero Donald Trump that is making him lash out. Or maybe he’s just an obtuse ideologue that really doesn’t care about anything other than his Trump agenda. He certainly didn’t consider how this picture would affect the boys in that troop. So, Billy, you can judge beauty pageants like your hero, defend him on the radio by telling us to look at all the skyscrapers, but we here in Frederick County demand a little more from our leaders. Stop being terrible all the time, just stop!

Right this very second!

Time to hit the liquor store! It’s debate night!

Keep your organs in check people!
Keep your organs in check people!

Your faithful Yokels only expend our precious energy in creating drinking games about our lovable, quirky county council. We would be remiss, however, if we didn’t point you in the direction of a fun drinking game for tonight’s debate. For how can anyone be expected to get through it without liquid fortification?  Make sure you have a yuuge supply of booze on hand, it could be a long night! Click here to play.

Trouble in Paradise? The Yokel does some math for y’all!

Sounds great!

Despite all the declarations of love we’ve heard from our At Large Council member there seems to be some trouble between him and Governor Hogan brewing:

Oh dear.
Oh dear.

What evidence does Billy present as to why Hogan should jump on the Trump bandwagon?

Frederick County Councilman Billy Shreve warned that Hogan is risking the support of the 54 percent of Maryland Republicans who voted for Trump in the April 26 primary.

“It’s going to look really bad if Trump wins Maryland and the governor doesn’t come out and support him,” Shreve said.

54% huh? Let’s do some numbering. Let’s see there’s 959,858 registered Republicans in the State of Maryland. 434,572 of those decided to show up and vote. Of those 434,572 primary voters 236,623 voted for Trump So yes 54% of those who showed up voted for Trump, however only 24% of the registered Republicans in this fine State of ours cast their vote for him. If we look at that in Statewide numbers, out of the 3,694,527 registered voters in Maryland 6% of them have actually cast a vote for Trump. Not quite the mandate.

And even if former Republican governors are drinking the Trump Kool-Aid:

Really Bobby haircut?
Really Bobby haircut?

There’s precedence in this year’s election that not every Republican is throwing their support behind him. There’s a Republican governor in Massachusetts, a mostly Democratic state like Maryland, who is refusing to back Trump. Huh, what would give a fellow Republican pause? Let us count the ways.

Y’all remember way back to the 2012 election when Romney pretty much lost the election because he said this?:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax… my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives…. The president has been a disappointment. He told you he’d keep unemployment below 8 percent. Hasn’t been below eight percent since. Fifty percent of kids coming out of school can’t get a job. Fifty percent.”

If that was enough for people to stop and think, “Huh, maybe Romney doesn’t give a flying hoot about me?”.  What can we pull out of the Trump archives?  Ready! Set! Go!

On Women:

  1. “Women have one of the great acts of all time. The smart ones act very feminine and needy, but inside they are real killers. The person who came up with the expression ‘the weaker sex’ was either very naive or had to be kidding. I have seen women manipulate men with just a twitch of their eye — or perhaps another body part.”
  2. “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
  3. “[Angelina Jolie’s] been with so many guys she makes me look like a baby… And, I just don’t even find her attractive.”
  4. “While  @ BetteMidler  is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct. ”
  5. “My favorite part [of ‘Pulp Fiction’] is when Sam has his gun out in the diner and he tells the guy to tell his girlfriend to shut up. Tell that bitch to be cool. Say: ‘Bitch be cool.’ I love those lines.”

On maybe dropping a nuclear weapon on Europe:

Matthews: How about Europe? We won’t use it in Europe?

Trump: I—I’m not going to take it off the table.

Matthews: You might use it in Europe?

[Laughter]

Trump: No, I don’t think so. But I’m not taking . . .

Matthews: Well, just say it. “I will never use a nuclear weapon in Europe.”

Trump: I am not—I am not taking cards off the table.

Matthews: O.K.

Trump: I’m not going to use nuclear, but I’m not taking any cards off the table.

Matthews: O.K. The trouble is, the sane people hear you and the insane people are not affected by your threats. That’s the trouble. The real fanatics say, “Good. Keep it up.”

Trump: I think—I think they’re more affected than you might think.

On John McCain being a POW:

In one of the kerfuffles that sparked early (and wrong) predictions that Trump’s campaign was about to implode, the Republican candidate appeared at an event in Ames, Iowa, on July 18, during which he derided Arizona Sen. John McCain as “a war hero because he was captured.”

“He’s not a war hero,” Trump said at the Family Leadership Summit, during a discussion. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

And how his expensive military themed prep school was just like being in the military:

Mr. Trump said his experience at the New York Military Academy, an expensive prep school where his parents had sent him to correct poor behavior, gave him “more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military.”

We could do this all day. If you want more Google is up and running for ya. If Mr. Shreve really believes that Trump has some kind of mandate in this State he is beyond delusional. We know that the good people of Maryland are not going to elect a opportunist, misogynist, xenophobic, bumbling “entertainer” to the highest office of our land. And maybe, just maybe Governor Hogan feels the same way.

So much not to love.

Putin for Prez?

Our faithful readers will remember way back when Kirby and Billy equated Jan to a tyrant. We did a whole post illustrating the difference between an actual tyrant and someone whose political viewpoints differ from your own. Well, sorry Yokels but it seems as though we are going to have to re-visit that point. In the Yokel mailbox we found this:

2016-04-24 (2)

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen some Putin lovin’ on Kirby and other Obama hater’s pages.  Before there is a call to do this:

1316qb

Maybe we should do a little investigatin’ into this  Putin character:

  1. He invaded and annexed a portion of Ukraine.
  2. He jails journalists and entertainers who speak out against him.
  3. He sold arms and has supported a known genocidal ruler.
  4. He allegedly has billions of dollars in offshore accounts.
  5. His aircraft has been “buzzing” U.S. ships.

This list is very incomplete. If you want to read more about President Putin, fire up Google.

So maybe if Obama invaded and annexed Nova Scotia, jailed some liberal Hollywood actors or maybe a certain English editor that Kirby thinks is mentally ill, then he will be a fan. Sounds pretty reasonable to us. Why does it seem as though those who rail against tyranny are always the fans of the tyrant?

How low can we go?

You may have heard that the scourge of modern day American politics slithered his way out to Hagerstown yesterday. What you may not have heard is that Blaine, Kirby and Billy decided to get the band back together so they could scream like a bunch of groupies at a Justin Bieber concert.

Someone needs to work on their selfie technique. What's going on with Kirby? And poor Billy, put in the back again.
Someone needs to work on their selfie technique. What’s going on with Kirby? And poor Billy, put in the back again.

Blaine, Kirby and Billy have all been very vocal about their support of Trump. Billy seems especially giddy over the possibility of a Trump presidency. Look what he said to the FNP:

Shreve, who is also running as a delegate to the national convention, said Trump’s comments mirrored the campaign promises of himself and Delauter.

“It’s really similar to the things we said when we ran for office. He said, ‘We’re open for business,’” Shreve said after the speech. “If he wins, you’re going to see our style of politics get big again in Frederick County.”

Hear that folks? “Really similar.” And do we want that “style” of politics back in Frederick County?

We’ve made no secret how we feel about Trump, and how dangerous his rhetoric is. Not to mention the fact that he has absolutely no experience nor does he possess the temperament to be President of our fine nation. It’s nice to know some of our local politicians admire these traits in him.

The path back to power is long and rambling.

Man, how bad is it when even Donald Trump doesn't like you?
Man, how bad is it when even Donald Trump wants to distance himself from you?!

Yokels, if you’ve been with us from the beginning you know that  Blaine Young is the reason that we started this little blog.  As we read his letter to the FNP entitled:

Blaine Young: ‘Work together, or nothing will get accomplished’

we knew we had to do something. Our first instinct was to go on an angry, drunken rampage through the streets of Frederick. Cooler heads prevailed and we instead decided to start a blog on the corruption and down right craziness that exists in our local government.  For almost a year, certain characters have kept us very, very busy. Even the one that promised we wouldn’t be hearing from him for 10 years.

In fairness, or because they wanted us to have an endless stream of material, someone at the FNP has given Blaine  a column. It’s always terrible, and today was no exception.  Let’s begin with the title:

What does ‘open for business’ mean anymore?

Sorry Hoots, but if we had to endure it so do you.
Sorry Hoots, but if we had to endure it so do you.

Didn’t he hear that when Jan took down the “open for business” signs all local businesses, especially hot dog stands, were required to shut down? I mean really Blaine, get with it.

The first few paragraphs are dedicated to educating us to how Democrats ruin everything. Of course! Republicans, on the other hand, would like to get rid of ALL regulations, except those that protect the public. To do otherwise would be picking the winners and losers.  Then we are treated to his views on  government services (Keep in mind folks, this guy was in charge of our government for 4 years and wanted to become our County Executive. Man we dodged a nuclear weapon!):

Sometimes the government would even go into business competing against the private sector, such as a golf courses, health and fitness, aquatics, nursing homes, entertainment, hotel and conference centers — just to name some categories close to home.

So is it his contention that the government provides  recreation and medical services just to stick it to local businesses? There couldn’t possibly be other reasons could there? Like cost, accountability and equal access?  Hmm, let’s continue….

112ai2
Sorry Sprinkles, we’re almost done.

His enlightened views on the tax code:

The tax code is a mess on all levels, local, state and the federal, but we created this mess. We desperately need tax reform and a simpler, more equitable tax code. I’d propose either a flat tax or fair tax. But this will never happen, because politicians would lose the power to directly benefit those who helped elect them.

Sigh, then he meanders his way back to Maryland.  You know the most business unfriendly entity on the face of the Earth!?  Because folks, no Fortune 500 companies operate out of Baltimore.  Thankfully, though, the Gods of fortune have heard Blaine’s cries for help:

It was a major step to elect a governor who understands how business works. Gov. Larry Hogan actually owned and operated a business that employed people. Now, no disrespect to other small-business owners, but unless you have a business location and employ at least a handful of people, it’s hard to understand the everyday challenges that a business owner encounters. In my opinion, career politicians who have never owned a business are the core of the problem, and this needs to be addressed if we are ever really going to have a government that encourages free enterprise instead of stifling it.

download
Hey Guv, Blaine wants to know if there are any open positions on your staff.

We are happy to know that Governor Hogan employed people instead of let’s say baboons. Business people of course have a perspective to bring to the table. But not the only perspective. So is Blaine actually advocating that business people are the only ones qualified for public office? It sure seems so. Things haven’t been working out so well on  that front though:

We have very few business people serving in elected office or who ever aspire to serve. When I look locally, I can only find one, and they are trying to drive him out of business or out of office.

Who, pray tell, is he referring to? A real stumper!

Well, Blaine has a  solution to all of our anti-business woes. There’s only one person brave enough to strip all regulations, ban all governmental functions and get this country back on course again! Are you ready folks?!:

This is why I believe Donald Trump has hit a nerve in this election cycle. Some people say we need a successful business person who tells it like it is to straighten this country out. Now, we always want to start at the top to fix our problems but it’s Congress and the state Legislature that needs to be changed first.

“Some people”:

2016-03-10 (1)

Do these mysterious “some people” really think that Trump is qualified to run the free world because he’s run a trazillion businesses into the ground? Is it a fair trade to elect a racist misogynist xenophobe to the highest office because he’s employed people? How can that be a reasonable action to propose? Oh yeah right, it’s Blaine.

If you do get a chance to read the article, MAKE sure you read the comments. They’ll give you a chuckle or two.  In all fairness, not everyone was upset about this column:

Why is everyone always calling Billy? Stop it people!
Why is everyone always calling Billy? Stop it people!

Local Yokel strays from the local..sorta.

10lmrj

Our faithful readers know we like to stick to the local. There’s so much going on in these here parts that we don’t usually stray beyond our borders. However, we feel the need to expand our net in order to help explain something that happened in our fine county yesterday.

We’ve heard that a group of fellas took to their truck, finely decorated with that symbol of Southern lost causes, and yelled obscenities at people of color who were walking down Market Street. We are smart enough to know that this could happen for a variety of reasons: drunkenness, stupidity, feeling they are entitled to their hateful opinions because someone running for our highest political office gives them the cover to do so.

It’s the latter we are going to focus on.

When Donald Trump first ran for office, it seemed like a gimmick. Some rich, bored, former reality show star just trying to get attention.  It has evolved, over the last few months, into something decidedly less optimistic. Mr. Trump’s “politically incorrect” campaign has given license to those with awful viewpoints to sing them loud and unashamed.  By saying the truly awful things that he does, Trump is taking us on a backwards train towards bigotry.

I am sure most of us have lamented the term “political correctness” at one time or another. One thing that we seem to forget are the reasons why we changed the way we talk. For one, we cleaned up our act so one group of people would not be made to feel inferior to another. Let’s not kid ourselves. Language matters. A lot. For a moment stop and think of all of the horrible words used to describe and address African Americans, Women, Asians and Latinos over the course of the 20th century.  Pretty terrible aren’t they? There are good reasons as to why its not okay to speak that way anymore. Then along comes Donald Trump who tells people that its okay to express their bigotry.  More than that really, he’s made people feel as though they are the ones who are oppressed when they can’t “tell it like it is.”

Where has this shift led us? Well so far: increased attacks on Muslims, 3rd graders taunting their classmate, high school students chanting, “Build the wall” and a myriad of other unfortunate cultural changes.

We get that people feel insecure when economic and educational opportunities are scarce. It’s scary that we live in a unpredictable world where people can  shoot or blow you up because of their extreme religious viewpoints. And like the old plantation owners of the failed Confederate republic, Trump feeds into those insecurities and prejudices by turning attention and blame away from where it really belongs…people just like him. Trump, and other greedy fear mongers, are responsible for middle class jobs being shipped overseas. They are responsible for driving people of different backgrounds further apart.  All Mr. Trump has offered us is a blame game and false solutions that will only tear this country further apart.

Now back to the local. Frederick, like anywhere else, has always had its racists. And only those people in the truck yesterday can attest to their motivations. One thing is clear though; Trump has paved the way for these kinds of people to feel comfortable in spewing their truly disgusting thoughts. There’s still time to stop this trend. Who is with us?

2016-03-10 (1)
Pay attention to who liked this as the person who posted it is no longer relevant in Frederick County politics.
