Guess who’s back? Yokel’s back. Back again. Yokel’s back. Tell your friends…
And none too soon. Here’s your agenda, but the game rules are different because apparently a bunch of dodo heads thought we were becoming a sanctuary county tonight and they’ve had to inform everyone that Nuh-Uh. It isn’t even on the agenda. How do computers work anyway?
So two rules to this easy re-entry to the game:
drink if you were duped
drink a fifth of Jim Beam through a beer bong if it was by the Conservative Club (or any of their friends)
It’s okay Freckles, you can come out from the plumbing.
Check out the article in today’s FNP about Kirby’s Gun Sanctuary. If you missed our post on this nonsense last night click here.
We just want to point out the quotes from his opposition in the Republican primary for county executive.
Delegate Kathy Afzali (R-District 4) wrote in an email: “I support the Constitution and all of its amendments, that includes the Second Amendment. Frederick County is already prohibited from taking actions that violate the U.S. Constitution. It is the great thing about living in America. I will not only uphold the Constitution, but I will clean out the squabbling politicians from County government. County government lets developers rule the roost. Clean house and protect the Constitution. I can do both.”
So read between the not so subtle lines here, Kirby you are one of the squabblers, and you need to go.
Regina Williams wrote: “I commend Kirby for his stance on Second Amendment issues. While I am a supporter myself of 2A, as County Executive, I plan to focus on issues within the County’s purview including County taxes, permitting processes, school safety and the heroin/opioid epidemic. Perhaps Kirby would be better suited for a state or federal elected position where he would have jurisdiction over his political priorities.”
We are going to disagree with any notion that Kirby would be better suited to a state or federal position. Kirby should just retire from any public office.
We will just wait for the next thing Kirby does that makes both Afzali and Regina continue to look like better options in the Republican primary.
Not one but two friends of the Yokel have alerted us to a campaign mailer sent out by our favorite council member who is running for County Executive. If you get what appears to be a tax notice, it might actually be a solicitation for a donation.
Really???
Here is the enclosed letter.
It sounds like he has a plan for Senior Tax Credits. We aren’t going to fixate on that right now. We remember that Kirby and Jerry had dueling bills for senior tax credits and they were supposedly working together to revise their bills into one bill. We aren’t sure what happened with that cooperation. But what about his statement that he will reduce property taxes? The property rate has not been raised! If you saw an increase it was because the value of your home increased. Is he really going to reduce your rate or is he going to ensure that property values all over the county drop if he is elected? So much for straight talk there. He can say he is going to roll back taxes all he wants, but it won’t be to reduce a recent increase.
Next, Kirby is going back to his favorite soapbox of a public-private partnership to build schools. This course of action was not adopted by the current council because in the end it is hugely a more expensive option to build our schools. Remember or remind yourself of the detailshere.
Kirby’s pledge to continue to take a stand against illegal immigrants is just bluster. We are not a sanctuary city or county and he is just fear mongering. What specific harmful and dangerous policies is he talking about? We have tried to figure this out before and we aren’t the onlyones.
We really think Kirby should change his motto. Straight Talk/Straight Answers seems to encompass the opposite of his actions thus far on the council. We have no hope that he will change his ways if elected County Executive.
Politicians using scare tactics to secure votes certainly isn’t a new phenomenon. Kirby has lots of good company in that regard. What is a little more unusual, is getting everyone all riled up over an issue that isn’t an issue!
You may remember that just a few weeks ago there was some question as to how Kirby felt about sanctuary counties:
This morning, FNP reporter Danielle Gaines decided to check up on Kirby’s latest press release calling on fellow council members to:
“to make a commitment to Frederick County taxpayers by pledging that they will never support policies that would make the county a ‘sanctuary county’ for illegal immigrants.”
Ms.Gaines, being the thorough reporter that she is, decided to check with his fellow council members and the county executive. The result?
Jerry Donald:
“He is the only person on the Council or in the Executive branch I have EVER heard say ANYTHING about this,” Donald said in an email. “A sanctuary county means law enforcement would not enforce the law. The laws are enforced by the Sheriff. If he’s worried about the Sheriff enforcing the law then he should talk to the Sheriff. This is an obvious ploy to stir people up.”
Jessica Fitzwater:
“It’s odd that I would hear about this from a press release when Council Member Delauter has never asked me about it himself,” Fitzwater said in an email Tuesday evening. “He had an opportunity when I saw him tonight after our meeting but he did not say a word to me.”
Bud Otis:
“[Councilman] Delauter has never approached me or discussed this matter with me at any time,” Otis wrote in an email. “We have serious matters pending before the County Council and I will not comment on what I consider a non-issue and is not before the County Council.”
M.C. Keegan-Ayre:
“Council members Donald, Fitzwater, Otis and I are busy with several legislative initiatives, but none dealing with creating a ‘sanctuary county,’” she said Tuesday.
County Executive Gardner wins the war of the words, though we do hope she isn’t giving Kirby any ideas:
“While there is no real definition of ‘sanctuary’ cities or counties, the discussion is always focused on law enforcement. In Frederick County, we have a separately elected Sheriff who is fully responsible and in charge of law enforcement,” Gardner said in an email. “Kirby either does not understand the structure of county government or has lost faith in the Sheriff’s ability to do his job. If Kirby wants to focus on immigration, he should consider running for Congress.””
Whoopsie!
Next time Kirby, try focusing on something we really need to fix!!!
As you may have noticed, we here at Yokel headquarters have been enthralled by Kirby’s 2017-2018 fashion line. However, NOTHING could have prepared us for his latest release:
Nice try, Mr. Simon! Man, oh man, we were on the floor with tears streaming down our cheeks with this one! Is there no one proof-reading these things for him? Keep on being you Kirby! Truth is always stranger than fiction.
