Let’s take a looky at these election results!

Right off the bat, we are going to pose and then answer our own question. How do we know that the Maryland Republican Party isn’t a serious party?

That right there is your answer.

If you are new to Frederick or Maryland politics, we’ll give a quick refresher on this one. However, if you already tired of reading, we can sum him up in one tweet:

You can look at the timestamp and date of that to make your own conclusions about what kind of statement he was making about Vice President Pence.

If you have more time, jump into our archives to explore all we’ve had to say about him over the years:

https://fredericklocalyokel.com/?s=dan+cox

Or, if you prefer a bigger news network, you can watch this video of him accepting a gift from the Proud Boys:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/10/21/dan-cox-maryland-proud-boys

Or read all about the Christian Homeschooling world he’s a part of and think about what that means concerning his viewpoints on public schools and women’s rights:

Even if you are mad at Wes Moore about something, this guy is not the right alternative. Time and time again he’s shown us who he is and we need to pay attention. He’s a big fan of Trump and he will bow down to anything that man wants. Including allowing ICE in.

Next up is the school board race! If you’ve been following us around for a bit, you know how passionate we are about keeping the control of that board out of the hand of zealots. But let’s do some making fun first. Ever since mail in voting became more popular, our hate slatish folks (or whatever fruit colored name they are calling themselves this time around) claim some kind of victory before everything is counted up!

Exhibit A:

And of course, when the mail in ballots were counted all up the four people who will protect our kids and make sure that our classrooms don’t turn into some Texas-like dystopian nightmare got thousands of more votes than Fletcher and her ilk.

You can revisit the post below to see exactly why you should not vote for Fletcher:

Here’s some insights into another one of her slate members, Tyler Walker:

Shall we imagine the curriculum he’ll set up for our girls if he holds women and their position in society is such low esteem?

If you read the Frederick News Post coverage of the election results, you may have noticed this quote about a third slate member, Shelley L. Potter:

Potter, who does contract work for Outlier, a generative artificial intelligence company, wants increased focus on academic excellence, fiscal responsibility and more parent involvement in schools.

She also advocates for school choice and competitive compensation for teachers.

We know that her current career with a generative artificial intelligence company won’t sit well with many of us who care about education.

In that same article, the fourth member, Geoffrey Seidel states,

Seidel, who works as a clinical project manager for the clinical monitoring research program directorate at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, wants more parent involvement in schools, focus on core academics and an expansion of career pathway programs.

Seidel also advocates for consistent discipline policies and giving opportunities for family feedback on schools.

You can do with that as you please. We are actually in a very good position as compared to last voting cycle in that we have the exact number of people running that are needed to fill the four slots. No 5th person to throw off the math here. Couple that with the disparity in the votes and, so far it’s looking pretty good that we’ll keep the Trump orangies off the ballot!

Be sure to cast your ballot for all of the four candidates below:

Casey Day
Rae Gallagher
Dean Rose
Time to talk about the county races.

Let us begin with this. Your Lady Yokels are unequivocally against the building of data centers in this county. However, we do understand that these deals were made awhile ago, and trying to back out of them is probably legally and financially untenable. We still don’t understand why the overlay was changed or why the county so quickly took the referendum to court. Brad Young and some other folks running learned on election day just how serious this issue is to county voters. So, now we are all in a very difficult position. There’s no way we are throwing our support behind Holtzinger, who couldn’t be bothered to prove he actually lived in Frederick and violated a bunch of ethics laws while serving as mayor of Frederick. Plus, there’s this:

Hard, hard pass!

CE Fitzwater needs to do some fence-mending with county residents, especially those people who live close to these proposed data centers. And the rest of us need to remember what’s important to us in this county. For giving up our county offices to someone just because they say they are anti-data center isn’t a good choice either. We like someone who is going to make sure our schools are funded properly, that our parks are well-tended to, our libraries are not only places for books but community building, and all of our citizen’s needs are met. We know that these elections are going to mean some tough choices for folks, and we get that. But please don’t vote for someone just because they say they are anti-data centers without doing some digging. There’s some real risk in that course of action as well.

It’s not okay to vote for Larry Hogan! It really isn’t!

Mittens is watching people!

We are taking a break from screaming at you about the school board race, to make sure that y’all know all about former Governor Larry Hogan! There’s been two times we’ve been on this man’s side.First of all, whenever he and Dan Cox went at it, no matter what the issue because Dan is always on the wrong side of everything forever, amen.

And secondly, at the beginning of the Covid-19 panic, when unlike other Republican governors, he was trying really hard to be a reasonable person.

But then it ended. Remember that first Fall back after the Covid closings when he said he guessed it was easier for local school boards to just stay closed? He created a culture in this state in which teachers and other school employees went from being the heroes of the pandemic to being viewed as selfish. In other words, he villainized them! What a way to just throw everyone under the bus instead of finding a way to work together! Such courage!

Speaking of education, don’t forget this!

If you haven’t read the Time Magazine article this week about all the big bucks he made for himself and his cronies while serving as governor, then you really need to take a few moments out of your day to do so!

https://time.com/7081664/exclusive-as-governor-larry-hogan-approved-millions-in-awards-to-his-firms-clients/

Here’s a sneak peek into that reporting:

Oversight of the competitive housing awards wasn’t Hogan’s only involvement in running housing policy. The governor personally voted on grants or loans to several of the same HOGAN-listed developers from his seat on the three-member Board of Public Works. From 2016 to 2017, he approved between $600,000 and $1.8 million in loans and grants to four different companies that were listed as clients of HOGAN: Pennrose Properties, Homes for America, Osprey Property Company and PIRHL. The votes authorized or funded improvements or new construction for scores of affordable housing units across the state. Says former Democratic Maryland Governor Parris Glendening: “This is clearly something that should be explained to the public.”

The only explanation he’s given so far has been just to deny it all!

If you missed this week’s debate against our preferred candidate, Angela Alsobrooks, then you really need to make the time to do so! We’ve never, ever seen someone get quite so eviscerated in such a short period of time!

If you would rather just watch some clips, the Wonkette also has a great breakdown!

https://www.wonkette.com/p/maryland-senate-hopeful-angela-alsobrooks?fbclid=IwY2xjawF3oZdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHdo0fxImZh1rm3L7df-zjSBVFBZwsn6K4BbvsQpJvUWMXRvLE6znXiE-8A_aem_Ea4EC1bk5yQZdYMQNMRAOw

Some of our favorite bits are when he very poorly tries to defend his refusal to fund the Maryland abortion bill. (He was doing it for you ladies!) His refusal to answer the question over whether or not he would have voted for Trump’s Supreme Court nominees, instead choosing to launch into some fantasy world in which he lamented the politicalization of the court. But our absolute favorite part of the whole debate (and you can see this clip in the above mentioned Wonkette article), is when she took him to task for voting for a dead guy in the last three presidential elections. Alsobrooks said it was very instructive to see that he can’t make a tough decision when the chips are down! And you know what? She is 100% correct!

Dead guys don’t govern!

Let us also address that figurative and literal elephant in the room.

We’ll acknowledge you little fella!

If Larry Hogan gets into the Senate he has the potential to tilt the numbers in favor of the Republicans. Couple that with the very real possibility that Donald Trump could become President and that equals big trouble for this country. If Hogan cannot vote for a living person in a Presidential election, what makes you think he won’t go along with the other Republicans in the Senate? He can tout his so called “maverick” style from here to kingdom come, but being a U.S. Senator is a whole different animal from being the Governor of Maryland. Do you trust him to do the right thing? We sure don’t!

Hail Mary, let’s talk about the primary!

It’s been so busy here at Yokel headquarters!

All the votes from the primary election are in and now the work begins! We knocked out the entire 2nd rate hate slate, but the spirit of John Wilkes Booth still runs through 3/4ths of the OG hate slate.

He was useless just like Cindy, Nancy, and Olivia would be on the school board.
We do have to say we liked that David Brooks knocked Mark Joannides down a notch, because someone needed to! We all need to regroup now and make sure that 4 sane candidates make it up. For we cannot afford to have one of these backwards talkers on our precious school board.

Something is askew in District 5! Instead of the local Republikkins letting team normal, in the form of Michael Blue, continue on they put forth someone who thinks that Kirby is a hero.

The lack of judgement is astounding. Guess Michael Blue didn’t stroke Kirby’s ego well enough so he put this kid’s signs all over his trucks. And look at precious little Billy. I wonder how Pence feels about his name on that shirt these days.

Karl Bickel won the Democratic nod for what we call the High Sheriff around these parts. We’ve written quite a bit about the current High Sheriff, but feel free to revisit here.

It’s past time for this one to go!

Jessica will go up against the Chief of Staff for carpet bagger Alex Mooney who is currently under investigation for various ethics violations. We recently told the tale of how he didn’t want to raise the teenage marriage rate to 17 because he still believes in child brides. So you know we all need to rally behind Jessica on this one.

Never forget that he posted this the day after the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass shooting.

Our two Frederick County GOP gubernatorial candidates faced off with the dumbest one winning. From this concession post, we don’t think that Kelly is going to be backing him in the general!

He who must not be named! Keep an eye on our social media for every Monday we will post a new Dan Cox article from our extensive archives.

There’s of course many more races, and we promise to get to them. We must keep up our momentum and make sure that we keep our county government both sane and functional!

Your Yokel 2021 Countdown!

See if you can find the common theme!

A little grim… but our art reflects the times!

It’s that time of year when we recap the top ten posts of year! There’s a few people on our list that you really need to stay on top of this year. If they slither their way into any decision making authority, things will get dramatically worse around here. That’s a guarantee you can take to the bank!

In the #10 position is a post entitled “How low will we go with Cindy Rose on the board?” It’s a question we should seriously ponder before heading out to that voting booth next year.

Next on the #9 spot on our list was a rare opportunity to write about the three amigos: Shreve, Delauter, and Young. We don’t get these opportunities very often, but when they write a ridiculous LTE we can’t just sit back and say nothing.

Our number 8 post proves we are soothsayers when we predicted just how crazy things were going to get up here (and if you’ve been following us for awhile you know the gravity of that statement!).

In our #7 spot is a post we wrote regarding our feelings about the January 6th insurrection. There’s lots of screenshots from our local characters in this post so you can remind yourself just how terrible a lot of these people are.
In our 6th most popular post of the year, we try to follow Dan Cox’s logic, though we know by now what a worthless endeavor that is. Lately Dan has been complaining on Twitter how he’s been put in Facebook jail for sharing ridiculous videos. How old is he again?
We also feel the need to stick this in here again:
#neverforget

In the 5th spot is the theme we told you to look for. It’s when we warned y’all that Cindy was going to try for the 4th time to run for the school board. Stay alert folks!

In our number 4 space is our post regarding Blaine’s attempt at a write in campaign. Thankfully only a smidgen of the city’s voters fell for this farce.
In our 3rd most popular post we showed you how we suffer for you by keeping on top of the threat that Cindy is to our local school board. Lift a toast to us!
#2 circles back to Blaine’s inane idea that he should be mayor, while of course outsourcing the job to someone else. Just when you think you’ve heard them all!
And in our most popular post of the year, we once again sound the alarm over Cindy Rose et al.’s campaign to take over our education system. Make sure to share this one with all interested parties.

That’s a wrap on this year folks! Next year is a big local election year around here so be prepared for some drama! We will be here to see you through it.
