If you’ve been following us for awhile, you know we’ve been through several incantations of what we call (hat tip Elizabeth Barrett) the Hate Slate. Usually led by Cindy Rose, who has thankfully hung up her hat but will appear in today’s post, we’ve had to contend with a parade of hate-filled people who think they should occupy a seat on the school board.
The current name they are running under, though we will stick with Hate Slate, is the orange ballot. They recently held a very poorly attended event in which the theme was an Apple Roast. Just look at some of the pics they posted:
Today, Sherry Potter, one of the four members of the Hate Slate, posted this on one of the many Frederick social media pages:
Trump has created a world in which the bigots are allowed to parade their hate and then claim discrimination. Who is she to speak for all Christians, Muslims or Jews? Who is she to make people feel as though they aren’t welcome in a place where they spend a majority of their time? Why are we even giving these people the time of day? (Here’s some more information about the rest of the slate and some others if you missed it.)
This constant work we have have to do to protect our school system can be so heavy. We have to continuously guard our school system against those who spread rumors (for example that teachers perform gender transitions and show kids pornography) and fear just to get elected. It makes us think we should advocate getting rid of this archaic way of choosing our board. Why should our school board elections be the constant target of these larger culture wars? Our children need to learn the facts about the world, therefore there should be no danger of curriculum being hijacked by those who don’t understand science or history. What are we even doing anymore?
Thankfully, we have a group of kind, educated, smart people running this time around. So, until this MAGA nightmare of hate and discrimination comes to a close, be sure to vote for those who truly care about all children and their future:
And if these folks want to worry about how to protect girls and young women in school environments, maybe they should drop the irrational fear of trans athletes and instead focus on monsters like them:
